- $866 billion in assets.
- The non profit sector employs 11 million workers, 6.3% of the American labor force.
- $306 billion in donations, 75% from individuals.


1- Foundations

- 72 477 in 2007 (+74% since 1996), with $614.7 billion in total assets.
- $42.9 billion awarded in grants in 2007, which is the double of the United States’ ODA for that same year.
- With $1.6 billion awarded in grants in 2006, the Bill and Melinda Gates Fondation topped Austria and Ireland’s ODA.


2- NGOs

- 50% of American ODA is funnelled through these organisms.
- Amounting to $953 million in 2006, the operational budget of the American NGO World Vision is greater than Finland and Greece’s ODA.
- CARE USA’s operational budget in 2006 ($645.6 million) is greater than Portugal and New-Zealand’s ODA.
